Well, let me begin this piece by saying that Sky Rabbit are a band I like very much, Coming out of Mumbai their music signals a revolution in experimental music. They began their journey under the moniker "Medusa" and since day one they have managed to establish a sound very unique to themselves. Tracks like "March" and "Oil" from their 2012 self titled album tend to draw the listener in and make them curious to hear what else Sky Rabbit has to offer, and according to me that is what makes a successful band (Throw out the bait, reel in the catch).
Let us move on now to their latest E.P that is titled "Where" and features 5 tracks which in order would look something like this -
1. In Dance
2. In Our Times
3. Maybe Is Open Tonight
4. Over The Ride
To give you a perspective on the sound Sky Rabbit has to offer, I would say that it is roomy, groovy and simple with subtle electronic elements used to fill gaps in the sound spectrum. Judging by their previous album it is clear that they have a knack for taking you from a mode of contemplation to involuntary foot tapping caused by groovy bass lines. Their Latest E.P "Where" affords any one listening enough room to wander in and make what they want of the space. Looking beyond great production quality and a great use of their digital sound space, it is primarily their compositional prowess that makes the music very approachable and easy to absorb. Most of the music on this E.P gives center stage to the vocals and accentuates a lyrical quirkiness backed by a simple yet effective use of their instruments, this sound defines Sky Rabbit in my opinion.
All in all my personal experience with Sky Rabbit's music till now has been mostly positive and that momentum has surely carried into their E.P "Where". I'd like to end by saying that it is great to hear that Sky Rabbit have successfully stuck to an identity that has been embedded in their music from the beginning. In a world where everyone is trying to out - do themselves SkyRabbit march on with a confidence earned by consistency. Great stuff, already looking forward to their newer material!
